With the weather getting cooler and cooler each night I find myself craving the comfy, cozy warm specialties that winter brings. Cinnamon and apples are always a favorite winter welcoming treat...so when I came across Frog Prince and his Snow White's version ofApple Tea I was more than ready to give it a try.
The best time to create this tea is now, with apples being in season and oh, so very cheap...stock up now and use the whole apple (well almost the whole apple...I am not sure about you but I am not a very big fan of eating apple cores, seeds and stems but to each their own)...Not only does this recipe taste good but it will make your house smell like you have spent hours baking.
If you gave yesterday's recipe a try you will have just enough peels for upcycling with today'sHOTdrink.
Ingredients for today's wintry treat are: Apple peels from 5-6 medium apples 4 Cups Water 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon or Cinnamon Stick 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice 1 Tbsp Honey
Place your peels in a pot with the 4 cups of water, lemon juice and cinnamon. Bring this mixture to a boil and continue boiling it for 15 minutes until the liquid reaches a reddish state.
At this point either scoop out your peels or place a strainer over a bowl and pour your apple mixture through it. This will remove all the chunks and leave you with a cinnamon apple tea. Now is the time to add in your 1 Tbsp of honey ...taste...adding more honey or cinnamon if you like.
According to Finding Joy in My Kitchenyou can drink this right away, put it in a Crockpot on low for a Winter Party or freeze it as a make ahead party drink. If you decide to freeze this concoction you will want to freeze the apple tea only and add in your honey and cinnamon upon reheating in a crockpot or on the stove. If you are going to be serving this right away you may want to opt to use a cinnamon stick for flavor so as to avoid the cinnamon powder sticking to your throat.
I would you invite you over for some but what I made yesterday is already GONE!
