Winter Cough Tip Tuesday

34
With winter in full affect and people falling down ill around you it is almost a guarantee that you will catch something at some point. Currently in our house it is the nagging runny nose every morning and the tickle in the back of your throat monster. I decided enough was enough when BabyBear woke up yesterday with a slight bought of it and went looking for a home remedy cough syrup on Pinterest. I came across this link from Tip Nut and thought I would give it a try...

You only need 3 ingredients to make this work...

1/2 Cup of Honey (Raw is best if you can find a local Bee Keeper like we have)
1 Lemon (Juiced)
1 Tablespoon Glycerin

Begin by placing the juice of you lemon in a pot and just heating it through...making sure to avoid boiling it. I found that standing right beside the pot while it warmed and placing my clean finger in it to check the temperature worked best to avoid the boil point.

Once your lemon juice is heated through remove it from the stove and add to that your honey and glycerin...stir well.

Deliver 1-2 Teaspoons to your patients and wait for the magic to happen. I put BabyBears into a cup of luke warm water for her to drink it like tea...DELICIOUS!

You will need to pour your remaining mixture into a clean container of some sort with a tight lid for storage in the refrigerator.

As this is our first time making this too I can not tell you how long it will last but will update here as we progress. What I can tell you is it seemed to slow down the amount of coughing considerable that BabyBear did for the rest of the night.

Update: This mixture was still working and tasting good when used a month later.

What other Home remedies do you have for combating winter illnesses? Please feel free to share them in the comments sections below...I would love to give them a try.
