For those of you like us still stuck in the cold winter weather the need for indoor activities is quite high. I am sure that most of you have created your homemade play-dough at one time or another. We all usually follow a very similar recipe and in the end add some colour to it whether it be with food colouring or Kool-aid. But sometimes we want or need a really white play-dough for making those snow type scenes. Well I have tested this recipe out for you and I must say that with a little patience it comes together quite nicely. Ready to get started?
White Play-dough Recipe 1 Cup Cornstarch 1/2 Cup Salt 1 Tablespoon Cream of Tartar 1 Tablespoon Vegetable or Canola Oil 1 Cup Boiling (or nearly boiling) Water A Few Drops of Glycerin (this will make it feel smoother but is not required)
Start by mixing all of your dry ingredients in a bowl
and add to that your 1 TBSP of oil, combining well.
Next, pour in your water and stir.
At this point you may find that your mixture is way too soupy...if so feel free to add in another 1 Cup of Cornstarch, 1/4 Cup at a time until it starts to come together. If you are still having trouble getting your ingredients to solidify and come together, pull out a sauce pan, pour your ingredients in and heat it up on medium, stirring constantly until you see a dough ball form. This heat up on the stove only took about 3 minutes for me, so please make sure to watch closely as it can and will burn easily.
Once it is fully cooled, remove your dough from the pot and knead until it soft, stretchy and smooth.
This is also a good time to add in your glycerin if you are going to use that.
As a last option feel free to add in some sparkles for that WOW factor with the kids.
Nothing left to do but play and enjoy your dough.
Now Go Be Brave... and make some white play-dough today!
